Down by the cherry tree

Posted on January 1st, 2010 by admin

Let’s start the new year with an exceptionally dirty rhyme.

Down by the cherry tree,
that’s where she showed it to me,
it was black, hairy, had a big crack,
and it looked like a jungle to me.

So I whipped out my hairy banana,
shoved it up her crack,
she let out a big scream,
then I filled it with whip cream.

  1. I remember it differently
It was under the cherry tree,
when she first showed it to me,
it was hairy and black and it looked like candy to me,
so I pulled out my hairy banana,
and shoved it up her crack,
    OWW she screamed!
And so I pulled my hairy banana back!

  2. The version that I knew (AKA correct) is:

    Down by the cherry tree
For the whole wide world to see
    it was big and black
    it had a crack
and it looked like a cherry to me

So I pulled out my big banana
and i stuck it in the crack
    It let out a scream
So I gave it some cream
And I pulled my banana back.

  3. WRONG!!!!

    Down by the cherry tree
thats when she showed it to me
it was hairy and black and it had a big crack and it looked kinda funny to me
so i took out my banana and shoved it up the crack
she let out a scream so i let out my cream and i took my banana back

  4. this is how Brian Gay sang it in 5th grade (1985):

    Down by the cherry tree
That’s when it happened to me
    It was big and black
    And it had a crack
And it looked like a forest to me

So I whipped out my hairy bana-naaa
And I stuck it in the crack
    Then I heard a scream
    And I felt a cream
And that’s when I whipped it back

  5. ALL WRONG!

    Under the cherry tree
thats where she showed it to me
it was hairy and black and it had a crack and it looked like a jungle to me
so i took my hairy banana
    shoved it up the crack
she started to scream and then i creamed and thats when I got it back!

  6. Wrong again;
    Down by the cherry tree
That’s where she showed it to me
    It was big and black
And it had a big crack
And it looked like a donut to me!
So I grabbed my hairy banana
And stuck it up the crack!
    Filled it with cream
    And she started to scream
So I took my banana back!

  7. It’s really not about right or wrong, folks. The whole point of this site is to see different variations and versions of these rhymes we all know from childhood. Are they regional? Are they chronological? How did they spread across the country in the days before the Internet?

  8. Down by the cherry tree
    A-bulla-bullah
That’s where she showed it to me!
    A-bulla-bullah
    It was hairy and black
And it had a big crack
And it looked like a jungle to me
    A-bulla-bullah
So I whipped out my hairy banana
And I shoved it in her crack
She let out a scream and I filled her with cream and I took my hairy banana back.

  9. I remember it as:

    Down by the cherry tree
    That’s where she met me
    It was hairy and black
and it had a big crack
and it looked like a jungle to me

So I took out my banana
and stuck it in the crack
    she let out a scream
so I sprayed her with cream
    and got my banana back.

*Been years since I’ve even thought of this, but it popped in my head today for some unknown reason today so I thought I’d see if others have seen/heard it. Guess so.

As for region, I learned this one in Washington State.

  12. I remember it this way, as recited to me by a schoolmate when I was in fourth grade (1987):
