Down by the cherry tree

Posted on January 1st, 2010 by admin

Let’s start the new year with an exceptionally dirty rhyme.

Down by the cherry tree,
that’s where she showed it to me,
it was black, hairy, had a big crack,
and it looked like a jungle to me.

So I whipped out my hairy banana,
shoved it up her crack,
she let out a big scream,
then I filled it with whip cream.

  1. I remember it differently
It was under the cherry tree,
when she first showed it to me,
it was hairy and black and it looked like candy to me,
so I pulled out my hairy banana,
and shoved it up her crack,
    OWW she screamed!
And so I pulled my hairy banana back!

  2. The version that I knew (AKA correct) is:

    Down by the cherry tree
For the whole wide world to see
    it was big and black
    it had a crack
and it looked like a cherry to me

So I pulled out my big banana
and i stuck it in the crack
    It let out a scream
So I gave it some cream
And I pulled my banana back.

  3. WRONG!!!!

    Down by the cherry tree
thats when she showed it to me
it was hairy and black and it had a big crack and it looked kinda funny to me
so i took out my banana and shoved it up the crack
she let out a scream so i let out my cream and i took my banana back

  4. this is how Brian Gay sang it in 5th grade (1985):

    Down by the cherry tree
That’s when it happened to me
    It was big and black
    And it had a crack
And it looked like a forest to me

So I whipped out my hairy bana-naaa
And I stuck it in the crack
    Then I heard a scream
    And I felt a cream
And that’s when I whipped it back

  5. ALL WRONG!

    Under the cherry tree
thats where she showed it to me
it was hairy and black and it had a crack and it looked like a jungle to me
so i took my hairy banana
    shoved it up the crack
she started to scream and then i creamed and thats when I got it back!

  6. Wrong again;
    Down by the cherry tree
That’s where she showed it to me
    It was big and black
And it had a big crack
And it looked like a donut to me!
So I grabbed my hairy banana
And stuck it up the crack!
    Filled it with cream
    And she started to scream
So I took my banana back!

  7. It’s really not about right or wrong, folks. The whole point of this site is to see different variations and versions of these rhymes we all know from childhood. Are they regional? Are they chronological? How did they spread across the country in the days before the Internet?

  8. Down by the cherry tree
    A-bulla-bullah
That’s where she showed it to me!
    A-bulla-bullah
    It was hairy and black
And it had a big crack
And it looked like a jungle to me

  9. I remember it as:

    Down by the cherry tree
    That’s where she met me
    It was hairy and black
and it had a big crack
and it looked like a jungle to me

So I took out my banana
and stuck it in the crack
    she let out a scream
so I sprayed her with cream
    and got my banana back.

*Been years since I’ve even thought of this, but it popped in my head today for some unknown reason today so I thought I’d see if others have seen/heard it. Guess so.

As for region, I learned this one in Washington State.

  21. I’m from Los Angeles, California and I heard this rhyme in the 1980s .

This is how I remember it :

    Down by the cherry tree;
    That’s where she said it would be;
    It was hair and black,
    And had a big crack;
And it looked like a jungle to me.
    So, I pulled out my big banana;
    And stuck it in the big ole crack;
    She started to scream,
    So then I filled it with cream;
And that was the end of THAT!!

  22. Over the years I asked many people randomly if they knew of this rhyme. It has haunted me for years. Only recalling the first two lines or so and the way I heard the kid sing it. Amazingly I never thought to google it. No idea why. The post by Ian was how I heard it and he was the only one to include “da na na nana”. Maybe that was the NY way. 4th grade in the late 80′s is when I herd it. It went viral first.

  23. brooklyn circa 1974

    Under the cherry tree
    That’s what coming to me
    It was hairy and black

So I whipped out my hairy banana
    Shoved it up her cracka,
9 months later in the hospital
    Baby boy was born…

  24. I heard it like this in 5th grade from a friend Fernando. Miami, Fl 1994-1995.

I was sitting under the banana tree.
When this girl showed something to me.
It was big and black, it had a hairy crack,
It looked like a jungle to me.
So I showed her my big banana.
I put it in her hairy crack.
    She gave me the screams.
    I gave her the cream.
And thats the end of the prostitute machine.

Crazy the things us kids would know.

  25. I guess we were the only ones who had a significantly different variant…

    Down by the bungalow tree
    (da-na-na-na-na-naht)
That’s where it happened to me
    (da-na-na-na-na-naht)

    Down by the bungalow tree

So I whipped out my hairy banana
And I shoved it up [or in] her hole
    She started to scream
So I filled her with some cream
    Down by the bungalow tree
    (da-na-na-na-na-naht)

  29. Remeber this version from camp:

    Under the coconut tree,
    she showed it to me,

    it had a crack,
but it looked like a cut to me.
I whipped out my hairy banana

    I filled it with cream,
    under the coconut tree.

  30. My name is Johnny Banana
I make six pounds a day
    I went to lucys
    To do my duties
And Thats what I do all day
That girl took me behind the tree
Thats when she showed it to me
    It was big and black
    Had a wide ole crack
And looked like a forest to me

  33. In Detriot, way back in the sixties it went something like this:

Down by the old Cherry tree,
that’s where she first showed it to me,
    It was hairy and black,
    And she called it crack,
But it looked like a manhole to me.

I whipped out my 20 inch pole,
And shoved it up her manhole,
She started screaming and I started creaming,
Down by the old Cherry tree.

  34. My version I heard growing up in Gibraltar when I was over there at a British school. It has two verses that I remember:

My name is Danny Banana, I earn six dollars a day
I go to Lucy’s to feel her juicies and that’s what I do all day.
Then I pulled out my hairy banana and shoved it in her crack,
She began to scream when she felt the cream so I pulled my banana back.

I was under the cherry tree when my girlfriend showed it to me,
It was big and black and it had a crack and it looked liked a jungle to me.
So I pulled out my hairy banana and shoved it in her crack,
She began to scream when she felt the cream so I pulled my banana back!

  35. My cousin used to sing it like a song sometime in the mid 90s. I think he learned it from one of his older cousins or friends. I was living in Kingston WA at the time. This was (as closely as I can remember) how his version went:

    Down by the cherry trEE-ee
That one girl was showing to ME-ee
    It was big and hairy
    And very Scary
And it looked like a Jungle to ME-ee
So I pulled out my hairy baNAna
And I shoved it up her crack
    She put a loud scream
    And I filled it cream
And, well, that’s the end of that

That’s where she showed it to me
    (a-budda-budda-budda)
It was fat, and hairy and it had a big crack
And it looked like a jungle to me.

    Whipped out my hairy banana
    (a-budda-budda-budda)
Stuck it in the so-called “crack.”
    (a-budda-budda-budda)
    She quickly screamed in terror
    (a-budda-budda-budda)
    I pulled my banana back.

  37. From NJ late 70s, probably shared an ancestor with Ian’s above

    Under a cherry tree
da na na na na na
That’s where it happened to me
da na na na na na
    It was hairy and black
    she called it a crack
but it looked like a tunnel to me

    Sittin’ under a cherry tree
first time she showed to me
    it was big and black
    and it had a crack
and it looked like a jungle to me

    Oh-well-oh-well-oh

and it shoved it up that CRACK
    I heard a scream
then I filled her with cream
and I took my banana back.

    Thank you.

Also mine has hand motions. I think they really add something extra.

  41. Northern NJ, ca. 1984

and i filled that tunnel with cream

    … forget the rest.

  42. Same deal as all the others, but a slightly different ending:

Under the cherry tree, that’s where she showed it to me.

It was big and black and it had a crack, and it looked like a pussy to me!

So i pulled out my big banana, and jammed it in that crack, first there was a scream and than some cream and than out popped little jack!

  43. Haha! I remember this when I was a kid. As a girl I didn’t sing it. The nasty little boys all sang it. Mid-80′s PHX,AZ. Pretty close to the same as everyone else. Always as a song with the nah-nah-nah-nah.I looked it up trying to remember the end so I could sing it to my mom.
